[04: video] - I know you said he's just a dog astray

[The impact with the ground triggers the PCD's on button and the video flicks on. The camera has landed against a rock or something, giving it a skewed view of the sky, of skeletal trees and grey clouds. There's movement though, against the trees. A familiar figure, usually careless and flippant, with a pet name and some irritating compliment on his lips. This time, however, Thomas looked focused, and he moves with lean, predatory grace as the cavalry saber in his hands gleams silver. He's moving between the stand of anemic trees, sparring against invisible opponents, practicing or reliving some old encounter, every so often the saber biting through a tree limb to send it to the ground.

The feed continues in this vein for a few minutes, before a sweep of silver above the PCD sends a skeletal tree branch falling on top of the PCD, obscuring its view once more.]

Got it the first time, sweetheart. Just because you ask so nicely doesn't mean I have to say yes.

Just making sure! [He shrugs, smirk firmly back in place.]

All right! I think we've made our point.

So tell me, do the trees fight back much around here?

Not yet, but I haven't checked the trees in the Wastes.

I don't think the trees are your biggest problem out there.

Not that I've had a chance to visit yet!

The sandworms aren't so bad, as long as you keep out of teeth reach. Haven't seen much else out there.

... Sandworms.

What are those, exactly?

[Thomas gestures wide, miming something about the diameter of a man.] Big fleshy tube worm with really really pointy teeth. Nasty things, but killable.

I'll keep an eye out!

[That does not sound like something he wants to be surprised by. Just as long as it isn't immune to fire, they'll get along fine... and briefly.]

The more I hear about this place, the more fun it sounds.

[He chuckles drily.] I've seen worse, Red, but I'd put this place in the top five.

I wouldn't go that high, but then, I haven't been here very long.

Oh yeah? How long have you been around?

Almost a week.

[He winces. Not long at all, kiddo.]

Well, welcome to Hell.

You all keep saying that and I'm going to get my hopes up. Isn't Hell supposed to be a little warmer?

[That makes Thomas laugh.] Maybe. or Hell's other people.

Haven't met anyone that impressive so far.

[That makes him laugh again.]

Try the angels.

You know, I'm kind of enjoying the break... so I think I'll pass on that.

Nice irony, though!

[Raises eyebrow] So post-apocalyptic wasteland full of killer worms is a break for you?

You know that line about hell being other people? This place is refreshingly free of certain other people.

[...and nobody seems to want to kill him: bonus!]

I take it you don't appreciate the scene quite as much!

That helps, until you make new friends.

[The way he drawls on the last word is almost as good as air quotes.]

What can I say, I've been here longer.

Don't ruin it for me! I plan to enjoy this ... while it lasts. [Smirking, and shrugging.]

I'll probably agree with you soon enough.

[He offers Axel a smirking salute with the saber.]
